Poon Hill Trek Nepal

Ghorepani offers some of the most dramatic close-up views of the highest and most beautiful mountains in the world. The abrupt variation in altitude found here is astonishing. The trek passes through rhododendron and mixed forest alive with ferns and birds. In following morning visits Poon Hill a vintage point to view the Dhaulagiri (8167 m) and the Annapurna massif. The trek makes a small circuit and visits Tadapani (2450 m), zinnu and finally terminates in Pokhara. This visit hopefully will remain in your long lasting memories of travel experience.

Poon Hill Trek Itinerary Day 1-5
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1300 m/4264 ft]

Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Himalayan Trail finder. After completing your custom formalities (Visa etc) pick up your luggage and look for our representative with a Himalayan Trail finder display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to your Hotel. After check in, you can either take a rest, hang around in the city, visit our office; it all depends upon your interests and condition. In the evening we will organize a Welcome Dinner at an excellent traditional Nepalese Restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal. Included meal: Dinner

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today after breakfast, we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhists shrine (Boudhanath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where you can meet our trek leader and other team members. You might shop around the city if you need any gears for the trek during the evening time. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara valley (823m/2,700ft)

With a morning wake up guide will pick up you and transfer to the tourist bus station and drive (approximately seven hours with breaks) through the beautiful river view & Nepalese countryside to reach the Pokhara lakeside and transfer to the hotel and rest of the time explore the surrounding lakeside areas and overnight at hotel.

Day 04: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1,460m/4,789ft)

This morning we will drive for about 45 Km. This drive offers you the best view of Annapurna Himalayan range with terraced landscapes and villages and then descending to the Nayapul. From there our trek begins in this warm sub tropical region. The walk follows the Modi River upstream to Birethanti & follows the east bank of Bhurungdi Khola with scenery of waterfalls, high green forest and follows the picturesque trails and finally reaches to Tikhedhunga. Lunch will be eaten en route. Walking distance is four hours and we will stay overnight at Tikhedhunga village where you can enjoy the cool splash of the cascading waterfalls.

Day 05: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,772m/9,092ft)

The trail steeply ascends on the long stone steps to Ulleri village with the scenery of terrace landscape and Annapurna Himalaya. After few hours of long hard climb with several breaks in between reaching at Ulleri village, from here the path is gradual on the winding trail through the cool shade of forest, the walk continues with few short ups and downs section, Walking in the midst of the giant rhododendron forest and finally reaches you at Ghorepani after a good 5-6 hours of trek.

Day 06: Ghorepani – Poon Hill – Tadapani [2700m/8,860 ft]: 6-7 hrs

To catch the magnificent splendor of sunrise over the Himalayas, we make an early morning climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3200mtrs). Poon Hill (3,210m/10,529ft) is a great viewpoint from where we will be able to enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Mustang part and Pokhara valleys including the closest views of more than 20 highest mountains including the close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The snowy peaks of the high mountains loom above and around us glowing in the morning light.
After taking photos and having some coffee, tea or hot chocolate, we return back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, you make a winding climb along mountain ridges, through pine and rhododendron forests and pass by small mountain villages known as Deurali (2960m). After that, you descend to the Banthanti, to turn off to Tadapani (2540m).

Day 07: Tadapani to Ghandruk [1940m/6360 ft]: 3-4 hrs

The day starts with short downhill descent. Leaving Tadapani, we descend steeply through forests and then the trail eases as we reach Ghandrunk, which is the village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal. This part of the trek is through a thick forest of old rhododendron trees. After trekking some more minutes, we enter the village of Ghandruk, a slope settlement with stone houses mostly inhabited by the Gurung people. Along with enjoying the stunningly close-up towering views of Fishtail, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli mountains, we also acquaint ourselves with the simple but rich cultural traditions of the Gurung people at the Gurung Museum in Ghandruk.

Day 08: Ghandruk to Pokhara: 4 hrs trek and 1 hr drive

Our journey from Ghandruk is easy walking all downhill to Naya Pul then drive to Pokhara. We step onto a staircase paved with stone slabs, curving in and out of the village and then terraced farms. It keeps going down almost without breaks from Ghandruk until Modi Khola river valley. By the time we arrive at Birethanti, some of us would feel like having made a downhill marathon. But our marathon is not over yet. From Birethanti, a half-an-hour’s walk takes us to Naya Pul. The journey on foot comes to an end at Nayapul. Then, then drive the final leg of your journey to Pokhara.After reaching Pokhara you can have a rest or shop around Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 09: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)

Morning we’ll drive back through the scenic countryside and en route will stop for breakfast & lunch. It takes 7 hours back to Kathmandu. On arrival at Kathmandu guide will transfer to the hotel and rest of the day relax or explore the surrounding areas and overnight at hotel.

Day 10: Departure From Kathmandu

Today is your day for shopping for souvenirs. A representative from Himalayan Trail finder will take you to the airport approximately 2 hours before the scheduled flight. On the way to your destination trip you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
