In 2009 Hardcore Nepal started rock climbing trips after we spent a monsoon season training and practicing with our climbing guru and mentor Endra Rai. ( Read more about Endra Rai here.)
Endra was a long time guide and Everest summiter dedicated to helping other Nepali guides advance in the tourist and travel industry in Nepal and bring professionalism and training to all of our activities. We trained with Endra the summer of 2009 before opening our doors, and Hardcore Nepal was a hit! Especially with rock climbing, and in the following year, canyoning.
Today, we are seeing more and more tourist in Nepal asking for Rock climbing trips, and we have extended our services considerably. We now do rock climbing in Nagarjun (near Kathmandu), Bimal Nagar (near Bandipur), Nagarkot, Hattiban, and Pokhara. And our Three Day Canyon, Cave and Climb has become one of Nepal’s most popular short trips.
Other rock climbers in Nepal are catching the wave too. More and more companies are training their guides for climbing and we hope that with collaboration some of us will be able to create more and better routes for rock climbers coming to Nepal.
Would you like to do some rock climbing in Nepal? If so, be sure you climb with qualified professional guides. Bring your own shoes if you have them; we have plenty at Hardcore Nepal, but most companies do not. They are hard to find in Kathmandu. Even used rock shoes fetch a premium price here. You can bring your own harness, but most places have those. Just check the quality and don’t be afraid to ask for something different if you see extensive wear and tear. Rope check! We have lots of ropes here; every trekking shop has them because they supply the mountaineering expeditions, so no need to bring your own rope, but still, check the ropes being used. Most companies have good safety standards, but it can’t hurt to double check.
