Ready for your own Expedition to Everest? Join us on this classic two week teahouse trek in Nepal’s Solu Khumbu. The Khumbu region is the “Top of the World.” It is home to the Sherpa people, who are known for their warm hospitality as well as their mountaineering skills.
Become immersed in this ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture. On your trek to Mount Everest (base camp) you will visit the famous Namche Bazaar, visit Buddhist monasteries filled with ancient relics, sleep in Sherpa homes that serve as teahouses for trekkers, and soak up the Himalayan culture of this famous region.
The Khumbu region is also famous for its magnificent mountains and stunning scenery. The views of the 8000m Mount Everest, Lhotse and Cho Oyu, as well as the smaller peaks of Nuptse, Thamserku, Kangtega and Kwangde are some of the best in Nepal. Some say the most impressive of all is the beautiful Mount Ama Dablam.
This trek takes us along the route of Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay Sherpa and the 1953 British Expedition to the very foot of Mount Everest. From Kala Pattar, we can get close up views of the highest place on the planet. The trip is well-planned to ensure correct acclimatisation and includes time in the Chhukhung valley, a high altitude world of massive glaciers and snowy peaks.
Trek description: Trek grade C: This is a demanding trek. Plan to walk 4-6 hours each day. When there is the option to explore off the beaten path, we will take that depending on the time we have and the stamina of the group. This is a high altitude trek and trekkers should read up on AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) before they book.
Maximum altitude: Kala Pattar 5545m (sleeping at Gorakshep 5150m).
Best season: October – early December and late March – May
[important]The weather can be unpredictable at any time of year, and it is usually very cold at night in the upper Khumbu, so warm clothes (a down jacket is a good idea) and a good sleeping bag are essential.
Summer Trekking in Nepal: Sure, you can trek during the summer months, but be prepared for rain. It is monsoon season in Nepal. You will enjoy the solitude of a much less crowded trekking route, and see the splendor of flowers, plants and wildlife. It will not be as cold at the lodges as during the high season, but still, you’ll need a warm jacket.
